Claremont International Forum on Ecological Civilization
The Claremont International Forum on Ecological Civilization is the earliest and largest forum on ecological civilization in the West. The mission of the forum is to bring together creative academics, non-profit leaders, governmental officials, and leading activists, Chinese and Non-Chinese, to explore new worldviews, new way of thinking, new models of development, new way of organic farming, and new models of education in the transition toward ecological civilization. Thus far, more than 60,000 Chinese and non-Chinese have participate in the Forums and exert widespread influence.
For us an ecological civilization consists of local communities in urban and rural settings that are creative, compassionate, participatory, humane to animals, ecologically wise, and spiritually satisfying, with no one left behind. We believe that these kinds of communities can flourish in many different parts of the world, including China, and we want to help make that happen.
This forum is an annual forum which started in 2006. Every year, there are more than 100 Chinese and non-Chinese environmentalists, scholars, government officials who participate in this forum. So far it was already held 13 years and has produced significant influence. Many Medias including The People’s Daily, Xinhua News, and International Daily have reported the forum. Some scholars published reports on this forum. During the Forum, the John Cobb Common Good Awarding ceremony was held. So far, 12 persons have received this award, they are: Sheri Liao, Mary Evelyn Tucker, Dean Freudenberger, Mark Anielski ,Zongchao Liu, Tiejun Wen, Jay McDaniel, Herman Daly, Jinlei An, Sharon Snowiss, Shuyuan Lu, Joean Oon Siew Kee and Kongjian Yu.
Among these recipients, Dean Freudenberger is a pioneer of regenerative agriculture in the US, and Mr. Jinlei An is a well-known Chinese organic farmer who has grown organic crops in his 40 Chinese acres for more than 20 years.
